Comprehensive
Pediatric and Congenital Surgery
Pediatric
cardiac surgery is available for all congenital cardiac problems. The pediatric
surgery team consists of two pediatric cardiac surgeons and a full complement
of other specialists in the care of children with heart disease. These specialists
include pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, and pediatric
intensivists. Children are cared for in a supportive environment by a highly experienced
nursing staff.
A broad range of family support services are available, including
a nurse coordinator who works closely with the families to explain what is involved
in the surgery and keep the families informed during and after the surgery.
Special
procedures and services include:
- Arterial switch procedure for transposition
of the great arteries
- Ross procedure (pulmonary valve autograft)
- Norwood
procedure for hypoplastic left heart syndrome
- ECMO (extracorporeal membrane
oxygenation)
- Inhaled nitric oxide
